TS System - Gemini AI System Prompts
This is a list of the prompts given to the Gemini AI system in the course of designing the TS Transport System. This is also the order
in which they were given. The order is also significant as it helps the AI system build up background knowledge of the system under consideration.
The prompts were entered in Gemini during the Spring of 2024. This is probably relevant as well as the Gemini AI system doesn't stand still
and its knowledge base probably changes over time.
Spring 2024 Prompts
- Describe slider guide mechanism
- What does the guide look like?
- What does the slider block look like?
- A slider connected to the pinion
- The slotted guide is connected to the wheel
- The slider block is connected to the wheel through a con rod
- Wheel attached to slider block via connecting rod
- The linear motion of the slider block is transmitted through a connecting rod to drive a wheel on the ground
- We have a rack moving vertically up or down that meshes with a pinion. The pinion is connected to a slider block,
which moves vertically along a straight slot in a guide block connected to a wheel on the ground via a connecting rod.
- The outcome is a horizontal movement of the wheel on the ground. The input is a spring loaded plate which pushes the rack down or pulls it up.
- How does the rotation of the pinion cause the slider block to move up or down?
- How is the pinion connected to the slider block?
- Could we not connect the pinion to the slider block via a connecting rod?
- The pinion rotates so how does the pinion shaft slide up or down within the slot of the slider block
- The rack moves the pinion here and not the other way round.
- How does the pinion drive the slider block up and down?

- Can you describe the indirect connection approach.
- How does the cam follower pull the slider block up?
- The slider block is below the rack
- The cam will push the follower downwards. What will cause it to move upwards?
- What about a connecting rod connected to a crank on the pinion shaft that pivots as the crank rotates thus driving the slider block.
- The slider block is in turn connected to a crankshaft that drives a wheel on the ground
- What simpler ways would you suggest
- The wheel carries a hospital size trolley and travels back and forth on a floor.
- The idea is for the load on the trolley to compress a spring that provides the input force to the rack.
- The compression plate pushes the rack downwards
- The compression plate can be manually released to enable initial locomotion
- I'm not sure how far the compressed spring will drive the trolley forward.
- Can you describe the pinion, crankshaft, and crank arm in my trolley system?
- Do you have an image of a crankshaft with crank arm?
- I need a ratchet and pawl system at the wheel to get motion in one direction on the ground
- Can you show me a diagram or an image of a ratchet and pawl system?
- Is the ratchet and pawl system mounted on the same shaft as the wheel and beside it?
- When the pawl engages with a tooth on the ratchet, the wheel will stop turning and the mechanism (crankshaft)
driving the wheel will stop turning. But surely I need to keep it turning.
- The unwanted backward movement is produced by the reciprocating movement of the slider crank mechanism
- Could you show mean animation of an overrunning clutch mechanism.
- Or an image of an overrunning clutch mechanism
- The wheel is rotating backwards and forwards under the reciprocating force driving it; how can I make it rotate in one
direction only while still experiencing this reciprocating force?
- What is the difference in functionality between an overrunning clutch with a flywheel and one without a flywheel
- You say using a flywheel isn't overly complicated
- Do you know of any self propelled trollies or mechanism?
- I mean systems driven by mechanical means only.
