Programming a computer control system for a large dairy
The dairy was the Toni Molkerei dairy, Zürich, Switzerland
Start-up of the dairy control system software in Switzerland
-
Very large six storey milk processing, cheese, yoghurt, and ice cream production
plant.
-
Centralized computer control of all production and cleaning in place (CIP)
processes.
-
DEC PDP 8 with 32k memory and 4x32k disks used as controller.
-
4,000 input/output signals were multiplexed on data highways to control the
plant.
-
I was involved in this project for two years as part of a large engineering
team.
-
Some of the software design methods I evolved on this project have become
standard in the APV
Company and are being used ever since as standards in the automation
of food processing plant throughout Europe.
-
They have been adopted in toto by Swiss and French design teams.
