Programming of computer control system for a large brewery
The brewery was the Northern Clubs Federated Brewery in Newcastle, UK
-
Centralized computer control of the total brewing and cleaning in place (CIP)
processes.
-
The grains handling, the entire brewhouse, the maturation vessel plant, the
fermentation vessel plant, yeast handling and filtration plants were
automatically controlled.
-
The computer system used was a DEC PDP8/A with 48k memory and a large (>
256k) moving head disk.
-
Up to 5,000 input/output signals, a variety of analog and pulse control inputs
were multiplexed to control the brewery.
-
I designed the complete control strategy for the grains handling plant and
the brewhouse.
-
The applications programs were written in a high level interpretive language
structured in 1,500 qausi parallel overlayed segments.
-
I was involved for 14 months in this project.
