Junction field-effect transistors

A junction field-effect transistor (JFET) is a type of transistor in which the current flow through the device between the drain and source electrodes is controlled by the voltage applied to the gate electrode.

Metal-oxide silicon field-effect transistors

A metal-oxide field-effect transistor (MOSFET) is similar to a JFET, in that it is a type of transistor in which the current flow through the device between the drain and source electrodes is controlled by the voltage applied to the gate electrode. The gate electrode is electrically insulated from the rest of the device by a thin layer of silicon dioxide (SiO2).
