Note
Axial piston pump: An axial piston pump is a type of positive displacement pump that uses reciprocating pistons to convert mechanical energy into hydraulic power.
A rotating shaft provides the mechanical input power to the pump. The shaft drives a rotating block containing multiple parallel cylinders arranged in a circular pattern around the shaft's axis. The pistons are housed in the cylinders and reciprocate (move back and forth) to draw in and expel hydraulic fluid. An angled plate (in swashplate designs) or the angled axis of the cylinder block itself in bent-axis designs) causes the pistons to move axially as the cylinder block rotates.
The multiple pistons in the cylinder block reciprocate sequentially. As some pistons are in the intake stroke, others are in the discharge stroke. This overlapping action creates a relatively continuous and smooth flow of high-pressure hydraulic fluid.
